Senior Platform Engineer
Australia (remote-friendly) / hybrid Sydney preferred
Build the data and sync backbone that keeps institution connections reliable, secure and fast at scale.
Apply for this roleAbout Vecta
Vecta is building the financial command centre for people who take their money seriously. We connect banks, brokers, superannuation and cards into one live view, then layer a personal AI agent on top so customers can ask questions, spot anomalies and understand their full picture without hopping between apps.
We are an Australian company (O&C Technology Pty Ltd, trading as VECTA AI) building for CDR Open Banking first, with global expansion planned. The product is read-only by design. We never move money. Security, consent and clear explanations are part of the product, not afterthoughts.
You will join an early team with high ownership. We ship carefully in a regulated space, prefer evidence over slogans, and care about latency, reliability and trust as much as features.
About the role
You will own the platform that pulls, normalises and serves financial data across banks, brokers and super funds. This role sits under the product: job queues, sync pipelines, caching, encryption, auditability and the APIs our web app and AI agent depend on. Success looks like fresh data, predictable latency and calm incident response.
Key responsibilities
- Design and operate sync pipelines for institution data (balances, transactions, holdings)
- Build resilient workers and queues for refresh jobs, retries and backfill
- Model shared financial entities cleanly so product and AI can query them safely
- Enforce encryption, secrets handling, least-privilege access and audit logging
- Define SLOs for sync freshness and API latency; instrument what matters
- Partner with Open Banking/data providers and handle edge cases without silent failure
- Contribute to infrastructure choices for AU data residency and safe multi-region growth
Qualifications
- 5+ years professional backend or platform engineering experience
- Strong skills in TypeScript/Node or another systems language used in production SaaS
- Deep experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, migrations, query performance)
- Hands-on work with background jobs, Redis, message queues or similar systems
- Track record operating services in production: monitoring, on-call habits, postmortems
- Security-minded approach to PII and financial data
- Based in Australia or able to work overlapping Australian business hours
Nice to have
- CDR/Open Banking data providers, Plaid-style aggregators or similar integrations
- Experience with BullMQ, Temporal, Kafka or comparable orchestration tools
- Cloud experience on AWS or GCP, ideally with Sydney region deployments
